Governor Scott Walker Honors Veterans at Capitol Ceremony

Today, Governor Scott Walker joined Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary John Scocos and Medal of Honor Recipient Gary Wetzel at a ceremony at the State Capitol honoring those who serve our country. The theme of the ceremony is "Never Forgotten: Honoring Wisconsin's Heroes".

"The freedoms that we enjoy would not be possible without the brave men and women who serve our country," Governor Walker said. "We thank you for your courage and sacrifice and we will not forget those who lost their lives, or remain missing in action."

At the ceremony, Governor Walker presented a Certificate of Commendation to Colonel Don Heiliger, Vietnam POW and also recognized Ray Sherman, WWII POW, and Dale King, Korea POW. Governor Walker also presented the Veteran Woman of the Year award to Jennifer Sluga, and a Certificate of Appreciation to John and Mark Finnegan, founders of VetsRoll, which provides ground transportation to veterans to visit their war memorials and other sites in Washington, DC. at no charge to them.
